Presentation - Volunteer and Travel in Kenya and Tanzania

Jeff Martin will show slides and discuss his recent trip Kenya and Tanzania where he not only climbed Africa's highest peaks, but also volunteered with Kenya's Friend of Wildlife. He will present details on an upcoming trip scheduled for June 2004 which will again climb Mt Kilimanjaro and volunteer with a conservation organization assisting with community projects in the Masai Mara.November 3rd - 11th, 2003
Africa Centre host to Claude Ake Scholar - Richard Nyirenda
Week long series of lectures and events. Richard Nyirenda of Zimbabwe will speak at University of Colorado and Naropa on "Community-based forestry management in rural Zimbabwe".

Book Drive for Rural Schools in Africa
Africa Centre - 1405 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder 80304 303 442 2637
Come learn about the needs of rural schools in Kenya, Zambia and South Africa. See what students from our community have done to help these schools and find out how you too can help. We will be collecting books for shipment to these schools and hosting a fundraiser to cover shipping costs.March 5th and 6th, 2004
Ghana Independence Day Celebrations
Traditionally, in West Africa, communities would regularly gather under the Baobao Tree for singing, storytelling, drumming and dancing. In March of 2004, we will gather the Boulder/Denver communities together in the first Baobao Festival. Drummers and Dancers from the Ghana National Dance Ensemble will travel here to join our local performers and teachers for a week of workshops, demonstrations, performances, and celebrations. There will be opportunities for young and old of all backgrounds to gather and learn from an incredible group of teachers and performers. There will be a week of workshops in Boulder culminating in performances in Boulder on March 5 and Denver on March 6.

Africa in The Rockies
The purpose of this event is to bring together diverse organizations working on African-related research, conservation, social issues and arts. This two day event will include a day of intensive workshops for teachers and interested citizens, followed by a festive day of African performances, art, and food open to the public.
